The alternator type you have selected is the Leece Neville 4800JB series of hi amp/hi temp with a J-180 (4” mount) design

In order to make the exact choice, please be sure to answer the following questions about your application:

  1. Does your alternator have the same configuration as one of the above?
  2. What is the voltage of your vehicle system?  It has to be either 12V or 24V.
  3. What is the amperage output of the alternator being replaced?
  4. Does your alternator have an external regulator terminal connection?
  5. Does your alternator have an external ignition terminal connection?

Important note…These alternators are specifically designed to work under high heat and amp load conditions.  They are found on many newer school buses and on vocational vehicles equipped with magnetic brake systems such as those made by Telma, Inc.

Some of these units are equipped with external rectifier bridges (these are the aluminum castings containing diodes and are attached to the rear of some units).  This is done to help dissipate heat properly, and prolong the life of the alternator.

Match the details from your alternator to those noted below (such as system voltage, amp output and etc.) to determine the correct replacement alternator.  Then select the unit you wish to examine by clicking on the part number.  The next screen will give you a detailed review (and picture) of your selection.  At that point you can make your final buying decision.
