In order to make the exact choice, please be sure to answer the following questions about your application:

1. Does your starter have the same dimensions as shown?
2. What is the voltage of your vehicle system? It has to be either 12 or 24.
3. How many teeth are on the starter drive. There are normally 10.
4. The R5 starter drive pinion has 10 teeth, but is designed by Denso to mesh perfectly when replacing the Delco 42MT/11tooth starter applications noted in our chart.

These starters are a brand new heavy duty design made by Denso and can be retrofitted to most types of large bore diesel engines powering Freightliner, Mack, Volvo, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Sterling and Navistar/International. Unlike Delco type heavy duty starters, they are somewhat difficult to tell apart visually. Therefore, please review the vehicle and engine application data below in order to select the exact replacement unit.

Truck model years are noted in red. The R5 motors listed will replace any 42MT type unit currently installed on the engines listed. The R5 starter drive pinions all have 10 teeth, but are designed to mesh perfectly with all engine ring gears and 42MT 11 tooth applications.
