The starter type you have selected is the 39MT design

All SAASE 39MT starters feature an adjustable drive end housing for easier installation on any engine.

In order to make the exact choice, please be sure to answer the following questions about your application:

  1. Does your starter have the same dimensions as shown?
  2. What is the voltage of your vehicle system? It has to be either 12 or 24.
  3. How many teeth are on the starter drive. The most popular will be either 11 or 12.
  4. Motors with 12 teeth gears have 1/2 inch mounting holes, those with 11 teeth have 5/8 inch mounting holes.
  5. Does your unit have a TCS connection?  The TCS (Thermal Cutout Switch) is designed to prevent the starter from overheating and seizing up because of over cranking the unit due to cold weather, low battery voltage or out of tune engines.
  6. Does your starter have a voltage boost solenoid?** Most do. If not, replacing your unit with one that does is OK and the application will work perfectly. If for some reason the voltage boost solenoid is not needed, your mechanic may remove it and the motor will perform just like one without it.
  7. 39MT part numbers U391212VB and U391212VBTCS have a 12 tooth pinion gear that measures 43.5mm for use on Mercedes 4000 engines, however U391212VB-1 and 391212VB-1TCS have a 12 tooth pinion gear that measures 46mm for use on Volvo VE D12 engines.

** Some 39MT units are equipped with this device used to boost the power of the starter in order to help the starter work more efficiently in cold weather and to prevent voltage loss from the ignition key harness.
